Sam Purcell has quickly revitalized Mississippi State women's basketball, bringing energy, passion, and a player-first approach to the program.
Since taking over as head coach in 2022, he has guided the Bulldogs back to national relevance, leading the team to multiple postseason appearances while building a culture rooted in toughness, accountability, and player development.
Before becoming a head coach, Purcell spent nearly a decade at Louisville, where he served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator under Jeff Walz. During his tenure, the Cardinals became one of the nation's premier programs, making multiple Final Four appearances and competing consistently for ACC championships. That experience at one of college basketball's elite programs has helped shape Purcell's vision for sustained success at Mississippi State.
